3-1 #vocare

I must start this recap with an apology. I was running a bit late for #vocare last night. I tried to start the conversation from my cell phone and... it didn't work. :~( I'm sorry. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. I will do all that I can to ensure that it doesn't happen again. With that said...

This week's #vocare chat focused on the role of personality testing and skills assessments in identifying or nurturing a call. I chose the topic because I took both during my initial exploration of call. Looking back on those results, I'm not sure I was self-aware enough to provide accurate information. This lack of self-awareness then resulted in possibly skewed results. Here's what was said:

My Call For Abolitionists (#TNGG)

This article is for TNGG's Sex Week. The millennial attitude towards sex is not always what is mediated. Here I had the opportunity to shed light on an important issue: Sex Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery. Ignorance is bliss because knowledge creates responsibility. After reading this article, responsibility will be apparent. Respond to the call to stand for freedom and advocate for it's cause. It's time to "re-abolish" slavery.

"The Reality of Sex Trafficking"
For many, American slavery is an issue of the past, long taken care of by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil War. Some recognize, however, that slavery has remained an issue in areas outside of the U.S., specifically developing nations. But wait. Most of that was resolved by the Apartheid in South Africa, right? Wrong. Regardless of what many people believe, the truth remains that more people are enslaved today than in 1860, and more specifically, more people than ever are enslaved today in sex trafficking.

2-22 #vocare

This week's chat was on the importance of mentorship. Here is a video from WhatYourCalling.org on "The Theory of Multiple Mentors". As someone who has many mentors that have guided me through life in many different ways and many different times, I was really excited to engage other perspectives regarding mentorship. I hope you enjoy(ed) the conversation as much as I did!
...any ideas for next week's topic, leave a comment...

2-16 #vocare

I recently decided to begin coordinating a weekly tweetchat that focuses on issues of vocation and calling. This week was the first! These chats will happen every Tuesday at 9p EST and last for 1 hour. You can join for part or all of the conversation by searching for #vocare on twitter. When you post a reply simply add #vocare to your post. On Wednesdays I will recapture the discussion on this blog.

 Lisa Streight

 Tiffanie Shanks
Q2: What is your vocation/calling?

 Alison Carmack

 Lisa Streight
Q2: Not sure I would call it a "calling" but I've always seemed to be drawn to creative work, marketing, and customer service.

 Tiffanie Shanks
My calling/vocation is to nurture a call in young people. It took me 10 years to come up with a simple way to state that.

 Tiffanie Shanks
